Ole Miss is in need of a new starting shortstop.
The Baltimore Orioles drafted Anthony Servideo as the 74th overall pick in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Thursday. The slot value for the pick is estimated at $844,200.
Servideo is the first Rebel picked in this year’s truncated draft, which was shortened to only five rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic in an attempt to save MLB teams millions of dollars. A normal draft is usually 40 rounds.
During the 2020 season, which was cut short after 17 games due to the coronavirus, Servideo hit .390 at the plate for 17 runs batted in and five home runs. Servideo also drew 24 walks, which was good enough for second-best in the nation.
Defensively, Servideo had a .934 fielding average with 43 assists and 28 put outs.
This marks the second-straight Ole Miss player to be drafted as one of the first 100 picks. In the 2019 draft, Grae Kessinger was selected in the second round as the 68th overall pick by the Houston Astros.
