Governor Tate Reeves announced on Wednesday the safe return guidelines for permanent drivers license stations across the state to reopen on Monday, June 8.

Reeves said he has been working with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and state health officials to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Mississippians at these stations. Social distancing procedures will be implemented to help the stations operate safely and efficiently.  

In order to ensure that social distancing protocols are met, people will be allowed to visit their local driver’s license station on the day of the week that corresponds with the first letter of their last name. Those whose last names start with A-E can come in on Monday, F-L is on Tuesday, Wednesday is for walk-ins, M-S on Thursday and T-Z on Friday. 

It is strongly encouraged that people wear a face mask while they are inside the stations.

In order to minimize person-to-person contact, certain services will have a technological alternative provided on the DPS website. Additionally, all road tests for a non-commercial driver’s licenses will be waived until further notice. Minors must instead submit an affidavit, completed by a parent or guardian, that certifies they have 50 hours of supervised driving time.

Oxford’s drivers license office is located at 72 F.D. Buddy East off of County Road 406, just two miles east of Highway 7. It will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
