After passing the resolution during a special meeting on Tuesday, the City of Oxford was granted an extension for alcohol sales on Sunday by two hours.
Mississippi’s Alcoholic Beverage Control approved the City’s resolution to extend the sale of alcoholic beverages to on-premise permit holders on Feb. 2. Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen announced the approval of the extended hours on Friday.
Normal Sunday alcohol sales hours run from 11. a.m to 9 p.m., but for Super Bowl 54, the hours will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Through their grant with the MS Office of Highway Saftey, OPD will have extra officers working to protect people from impaired drivers on Sunday night.
“We ask that you plan your evening before going out and utilize our rideshare opportunities throughout our community,” McCutchen said in a statement. “Our Downtown officers and our safe site will be operational. If you need assistance getting home safely please use this service. Super Sunday isn’t super if you don’t get home safe.”
Oxford also extended their Sunday sales hours last year.
