Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Monday and the City of Oxford and the University of Mississippi are hosting several events to commemorate and honor King. 

The events are part of Pop Up Oxford, which runs from Jan. 17 to 26 and features several activities throughout Oxford. 

On Jan. 20, the city is hosting an MLK Day Breakfast, March and Celebration from 8 a.m. to noon. The event is free and hosted by the Second Baptist Church, located at 611 Jackson Avenue East. From 1 to 4 p.m. a Day of Service will take place, which will be community service opportunities at local LOU community sites. The University of Mississippi Division of Diversity & Community Engagement is working with the City on this event.

From 2 to 4 p.m., there will be three films screened by the Southern Foodways Alliance in conjunction with the Oxford Film Festival. Southern Foodways will show two films by the Counter History series, taking place in Jackson, Miss. and Nashville, Tenn. Oxford Film Festival will also show the film “Yazoo Revisited.” The free screenings will take place at the Powerhouse.
