Sam Morrow Woodward passed away peacefully, Friday, January 3, 2020, surrounded by family.
A native Oxonian, Sam attended University High School. Upon graduation, Sam
enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Italy, holding a rank of Specialist 3.
Upon returning, Sam remained in the National Guard as a Sergeant while
attending Ole Miss–earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business.
After a brief period working in Insurance, Sam quickly realized the corporate world
was not for him, moved back to Oxford, and went into business for himself. A
talented artisan and skilled carpenter, Sam loved working with his hands and
being outdoors. Realizing a growing need for student housing, he began
purchasing real estate and constructing his own rental property with limited
assistance—often unaided. Always willing to help someone in need, Sam is described by his friends and family as kind, loyal, charitable, selfless, and fiercely independent.
Sam is survived by his sister, Janet Woodward Freimark; his sister-in-law, Eleanor
Arthur Woodward; his nephews, William Levi Rogers IV and Joseph Evans
Woodward, III; his nieces, Valorie Woodward Rogers, Katharine Woodward
Taylor, and Allison Woodward Alder, and many other close friends and family.
At his request, no services will be held in his honor. As a tribute to Sam’s
character, all who wish to celebrate Sam’s life are requested to pay it forward by
assisting a friend or stranger in need.
