The Oxford High Horticulture program had three teams qualify for the State FFA Contest, including agronomy, equipment and tool Identification, and floriculture.
In the agronomy event, team members Lilly Ambrose, Meghan Goins, Stella McConnell and Anastasiia Sikorska excelled in a general knowledge exam, identification of crops, seeds, weeds, insects and a collaborative team activity. After winning the Floriculture event last year, these students embraced a new challenge and achieved top honors once again.
Oxford Horticulture also earned first place in the floriculture event with a new team of students. Swayze Ross, Azalia Salgado, Aeriunna Strong and Marissa Youngs demonstrated their knowledge through an exam, plant identification and a floral design practicum.
Special congratulations to Lilly Ambrose and Swayze Ross, who were recognized as the high-scoring individuals in Agronomy and Floriculture.
After attending last year’s National FFA Convention & Expo, the Oxford Horticulture program will return this fall to represent Mississippi in both agronomy and floriculture at the event in Indianapolis, Indiana.
