The Lafayette County Arena will host a Summer Horse Camp on May 9 and 10, offering riders a comprehensive opportunity to prepare for the upcoming show season.

Coordinated by retired Mississippi State University Extension Agent Margaret Webb, the camp is designed to help participants refine their riding skills and connect with fellow equestrian enthusiasts.

Horseback riding offers teens a unique blend of physical, mental, and social benefits. Riding improves coordination, balance, and strength, while also promoting stress relief and emotional well-being. It also builds confidence, responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.

Margaret Webb brings decades of experience in horse education and has been instrumental in guiding regional students through 4-H programs and show preparations. Her dedication to equine instruction has made her a respected figure in the community.

The camp, limited to 20 participants, costs $100 and includes meals and snacks. It focuses on skill development, confidence building, and show preparation. Participants will engage in varied riding sessions, groundwork, and problem-solving exercises. The camp also addresses show pattern practice, tack and equipment usage, and show etiquette.

The Lafayette County Arena, located behind the Lafayette County Business Complex on F.D. Buddy East Parkway, is known for hosting professional rodeos, barrel races, and community rider nights.  Programs of this nature expand its services, fostering a supportive network among riders and promoting community engagement in equestrian activities.

Built by the county, the facility connects the community to agricultural resources from educational programs offered by 4-H, hands on learning experiences, cultural events,  and a range of services offered by the Mississippi State Extension office.
