Rain, severe storms expected this weekend

The Mid-South, including Oxford and Lafayette County, is, once again, in for some rough weather this weekend.
The entire Mid-South is under an Enhanced Risk, or a 3 out of 5 on the National Weather Service’s Severe Weather Risk scale for Sunday night and into early Monday morning.
The worst of the storms are expected to be during the overnight hours on Sunday into Monday morning. Residents should have multiple ways to receive any severe weather warnings, like tornado warnings, that are loud enough to wake them up.
The primary threats currently are high winds and large hail, with secondary threats being localized heavy rain and possible tornadoes.
Before the severe storms that are expected Sunday night, our area should see some rain on Saturday. Showers are likely before 1 p.m. on Saturday and then possible thunderstorms between 1 and 4 p.m. with more rain later in the evening.
More rain is expected earlier on Sunday as well, so the ground could be well saturated by the time the heavier storms roll in that night, increasing the risk for localized flooding.
The Oxford Eagle will post weather updates as they are available. Immediate watches and warnings will be shared on the Eagle’s Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages.
