Ole Miss senior cycling coast-to-coast to raise $20K for people with disabilities

Ole Miss senior Cameron Geranios aims to raise $20,000 to cycle in the Journey of Hope, an annual cross-country cycling trip to promote awareness for people with disabilities.

The Journey of Hope is hosted every summer by The Ability Experience, the philanthropy of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. The cyclists ride from San Francisco and Seattle to Washington, D.C.

Geranios has been a member of the Ole Miss chapter of Pi Kappa Phi since his freshman year in the fall of 2021.

Pi Kappa Phi’s philanthropy resonated with Geranios as he had experience volunteering with the Special Olympics.

“Pi Kappa Phi taught me important values such as loyalty, accountability, and servant leadership,” Geranios said. “I believe in helping people around me and leaving a positive impact on the world.”

Along with daily training rides and an intense diet, Geranios is working to fundraise $20,000 by the start of the trip in early June. To help him achieve this, he created the Time for Change campaign.

Partnering with the 11 Panhellenic sororities at Ole Miss, Geranios will volunteer one minute of time to the local community per dollar donated by each sorority.

“I came up with the idea because each sorority has a philanthropic mission that complements our shared dedication to supporting people with disabilities,” he said.

Geranios volunteered for the North Mississippi Exchange Family Center and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He plans to volunteer with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Oxford branch, and the Gallant Hearts Guide Dog Center in Jackson, Mississippi.

Geranios has documented his fundraising, training, and volunteering progress with weekly videos on his social media profile. He can be found on Instagram @cammy_tubes.
