Oxford tennis defeated Newton County 6-1 in a home match at the John Leslie Tennis Courts on Saturday.
Winning singles matches for the Chargers were Lainey Schuesselin, who rallied to defeat Newton County’s Alissa Luke 3-6, 6-6 (8-6), (10-5) and Henry Oyler, who won over Braiden Estes 6-1, 6-0.
In girls doubles, Oxford’s Allie Harris Flowers and Lotte Luber won 6-4, 6-2 over Reese Thomas and Katie Lynne McDonald. Oxford’s Claire Tosh and Kennedy Crain lost 2-6, 6-2, (7-10) to Ellie Russell and Abby Williams.
The Chargers won all the remaining matches. Sam Shipman and Tan Turner won 6-3, 6-4 over Drew Walker and Hayes Holliman. Grayson Cope and Will Nordstrom won 6-1, 6-1 over Seth Gipson and Caden Chaney. In mixed doubles Van Turner and Marion Austin defeated Keaton Gray and Samantha Boykin 6-2, 6-4.
Oxford’s next match is next week at Desoto Central.
