Oxford takes Southaven 11-1

Fisher Giles hit a home run and Barrett Kamman held Southaven to one run on three hits over five innings as Oxford defeated Southaven 11-1 in a region game on Monday night in a game that was ended due to the ten-run rule.

Oxford scored three in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. Brady Maloney reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a ground rule double by James Blackwood. Sharpe Smith followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. Brock Siskey would come in for Smith as a courtesy runner. Blackwood and Siskey scored making it 3-0 after a Bowen Vaughn single.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Fisher Giles answered a solo homer by Southaven in the top half, making it 4-1 after two.

In the 4th inning Hogan Overby walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Giles single. Hayes Huggins then singled. An error on a Blackwood fly ball to left field scored Giles and Huggins advanced to third. A sac fly to center by Sharpe Smith scored Huggins, making it 7-1 after four innings.

In the bottom of the 5th inning Bowen Vaughn reached on an error, Robert Upchurch singled, and Giles walked to load the bases. Brady Maloney then doubled, clearing the bases for a 10-1 lead.

Thomas Roady replaced Kamman on the mound in the 6th and retired all three batters he faced.

Vaughn walked with one out and then scored from first on an Upchurch double, ending the game.

The teams will meet again on Friday night in Southaven.
