Strong storms, heavy rain, gusty winds expected Tuesday

A potential upper low will bring a strong storm system to our area on Tuesday.

Hold onto your hats and grab the umbrella – it’s fixin’ to be a windy and wet day.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Lafayette County has a slight risk for severe storms.

The system is not expected to drastically change the temperature. The highs will drop slightly after Tuesday into the low 50s and then reach back into the 60s by Friday.

The primary threat is high winds with wind gusts on Tuesday reaching up to 40 mph. The area is under a Wind Advisory from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Secondary threats will be heavy rain and large hail. The possibility of a tornado cannot be ruled out, NWS reported.

Rain is expected to roll in around noon on Tuesday with the strongest storms expected in the late afternoon to evening hours.

Wednesday is expected to be mostly cloudy with the high near 53 degrees and winds around 15 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph as the storm system moves away. The low on Wednesday should be around 32 degrees.

The sun will return Thursday with the high near 54 degrees and the low around 39.

Friday should be mostly sunny during the day, but a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms returns that are expected to continue though Saturday night with the sun returning on Sunday where it will be sunny with a high of 60 degrees, according to the NWS.
