The DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office has announced that Brian Damron, a 62-year-old Southaven man, will serve 20 years in prison with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) after pleading guilty to charges of attempted murder and sexual battery.

Following his prison term, Damron will also face 10 years of post-release supervision (PRS) and have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The plea was entered earlier this month, and he was sentenced yesterday by Judge Chatham.

District Attorney Matthew Barton expressed gratitude toward the victim for her bravery.

“We are deeply thankful for the victim’s strength in coming forward and the resolve she continues to show as a survivor. Her testimony during the sentencing was a most magnificent display of courage. I honor her and am thankful this evil and vile man will no longer live among us.”

Barton also remarked on the severity of the sentence given Damron’s age.

“For a man of his age and health, this sentence almost certainly means he will die in a Mississippi prison,” Barton said. “As insurance, we have coordinated with Kentucky, where we expect they will tack on many years since this offense violates his parole for previous crimes there.”

The case was investigated by the Southaven Police Department and prosecuted by Oxford resident and Assistant District Attorney Steven Jubera.
