Renovations to change the former Oxford Police Department into offices for city departments is expected to begin early next month.
On Tuesday, the Oxford Board of Aldermen approved a bid for the renovation project.
The city received four bids for the project, ranging from $774,451 to $946,072. The lowest bid came from JP Corp General Contractors.
“Their bid was $90,000 less than the next to lowest bid,” said Mark Levy, director of special projects for the city of Oxford.
The Board approved JP Corp’s bid that included a base bid of $633K and four alternate additions for painting the bathrooms, new millwork in the kitchen and breakroom, redoing the soffits on the main building and painting the exterior for an additional $141,451.
Levy said he expects renovations to begin on March 7.
OPD recently moved into a new $12-million facility off Industrial Park Drive.
The former OPD will be transformed into the Bart Robinson Municipal Complex which will house the city’s Department of Developmental Services which is currently located inside City Hall. The move will free up space inside City Hall for Visit Oxford, which will be moving from its current location on the Square into City Hall when renovations are complete, along with a new visitor center.
