A bond hearing for the man charged with the murder of Ole Miss student Jimmie “Jay” Lee has been rescheduled.

Earlier this month, a new bond hearing was set for Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr. was scheduled for this Friday; however, according to court officials, that hearing will now be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 27 in Oxford.

The request to reschedule was granted due to Herrington hiring a new attorney, Aafram Sellers from Jackson, and to give the attorney time to prepare for the bond hearing.

Herrington was arrested on July 22, 2022, and charged with capital murder. He was held on no bond until December when he was eventually granted a $250,000 bond.

Herrington’s trial was held in December 2024 but resulted in a hung jury.

Lee, 20, was last seen around 6 a.m. on July 8, 2022, when he left his apartment at Campus Walk Apartments. His body had not been recovered for two and a half years.

That changed on Feb. 1, when Lee’s remains were found in Carroll County in a rural area by hunters who were in the area.

On Feb. 7, a Lafayette County grand jury indicted Herrington on a new charge of tampering with evidence – Lee’s body.

According to the indictment, Herrington is accused of unlawfully and intentionally destroying, concealing, removing, or altering the deceased body of Jimmie “Jay” Lee.

The grand jury also issued an amended indictment against Herrington for capital murder and kidnapping.

Herrington was arraigned on the new charge. He pleaded not guilty and did not have an attorney representing him at the time. Attorney Kevin Horan represented Lee during his trial but is no longer Lee’s attorney for unknown reasons.
