Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi will offer $75 Heart Score screenings and coronary calcium scans, throughout February for American Heart Month.
Coronary calcium screenings involve painless, noninvasive computerized tomography scans of the heart that measure the amount of calcium in coronary arteries and take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Although calcium is necessary for many body functions, excess calcium deposits as plaque in arteries. Recent research has shown a direct correlation between the amount of calcium in the coronary arteries and the likelihood of a future heart attack.
“American Heart Month is a good reminder to check on your heart health,” said Brian Welton, Baptist North Mississippi’s chief executive officer and administrator. “We are pleased to offer preventive heart screenings for Oxford residents.”
Appointments are available at the hospital, 1100 Belk Boulevard, and the Oxford Diagnostic Center, 504 Azalea Drive. Fasting is not required and participants should avoid caffeine 12 hours before appointments.
