Three local businessmen — Terry Warren, Brad Walsh and Clarence Chapman — have collaborated with Oxford and Lafayette County to establish nonprofit organizations focused on providing scholarships and educational support for the children of law enforcement employees.

The newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofits, Friends of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Friends of the Oxford Police Department, aim to honor the service and dedication of law enforcement personnel in the community.

According to organizers, the initiative reflects a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by members of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Oxford Police Department. The nonprofits seek to address the challenges these families face while emphasizing the importance of their contributions to community safety and well-being.

The effort also highlights the close relationship between local law enforcement and the Lafayette-Oxford-University community. Organizers believe that fostering this connection strengthens the foundation of the community and its shared values.

In addition to offering financial assistance for education, the nonprofits aim to reaffirm the mutual support between law enforcement and residents. Organizers hope these efforts will contribute to a brighter future for both the families of law enforcement officers and the broader community.

Community members are encouraged to support these initiatives through donations, volunteering, and raising awareness. Contributions to Friends of the LCSO, Inc., and Friends of the OPD, Inc., both IRS-qualified nonprofits, can be sent to 2330 University Avenue, Suite G, Oxford, MS 38655.
