Anubis Improv will be hosting a weekend of improv with renowned performer, director, and teacher Brian James O’Connell.
Known for his expertise in long-form improv and innovative teaching methods, O’Connell will perform a one-night-only show at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center this Friday and lead an exclusive workshop on Saturday.
A Los Angeles-based creative force, O’Connell brings a wealth of experience to the stage. A co-founder of The Pack Theater, which was named LA Weekly’s “Best Theater Company” two years in a row, O’Connell is widely regarded as an expert in The Deconstruction, a complex long-form improv structure. His global teaching engagements and dedication to improv education have solidified his reputation as a leader in the field.
In addition to his work at The Pack Theater, O’Connell has served on the board of improv institutions such as Camp Improv Utopia and Highwire Improv in Baltimore. As a mainstay of the improv community, he has coached and performed at major venues like iOWest and continues to inspire improvisers worldwide with his engaging style and innovative techniques.
Tickets for the event are $16 and are expected to sell quickly.
For those eager to refine their craft, O’Connell’s Position Play workshop this Saturday is a must-attend. Designed for improvisers of all levels, the workshop focuses on finding an actor’s “position” in a scene and leveraging it for maximum impact.
Position Play, developed by Miles Stroth of The Pack Theater, helps performers master the dynamics of four essential scene types: Logical/Absurd, Character-Driven, Alternate Reality, and Realistic.
Participants will gain practical tools to elevate their performance confidence and bring renewed energy to their choices on stage.
