The Oxford Juneteenth Committee invites the community to ring in the New Year while supporting a meaningful cause at their annual fundraiser.
Shimmer into the New Year will be held on Dec. 31, starting at 8 p.m. at The Powerhouse, offering an evening of entertainment, food and celebration.
The festivities will feature live music by Cassie Bonner from 8 to 10 p.m., followed by a DJ and dancing from 10 to 11:30 p.m. A live band will usher attendees into the New Year, accompanied by festival-style foods from J. Robertson Catering and a cash bar.
General admission tickets are $50 and include all activities plus a champagne toast at midnight.
Guests can also reserve a table of eight for $350, saving $50 and receiving premium seating with a view of the band and dance floor. Online ticket sales will close at noon on Dec. 31.
The event supports Oxford’s Juneteenth Celebration, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States.
The annual Oxford celebration started as a neighborhood block party along Martin Luther King Drive and has grown over the years to a large community-wide event, honoring the rich history and cultural heritage of Lafayette County.
