Life gets in the way of good reads

It’s a lovely morning, chilly, but sunny.  I have finished my morning chores and feel quite free to move on to other ventures.

A friend recently passed along a couple of books to me after she finished.  Nice to have such a thoughtful friend.  However, she recently asked me about a certain passage in one of the books and I had to confess that I had not yet read the book.  But I went immediately to the bookcase to find the book.  I couldn’t find it initially, but a closer look and it was right there on the shelf right under my nose.  I proceeded to the sunroom to enjoy some time reading.

As soon as I sat down with a book in hand, I spied the November/December issue of AARP Magazine.  It features an article on Samuel L. Jackson.  I think he is a talented actor and interesting, so I picked up the magazine to read the article.

Our magazines are in a basket handy to either the sofa or recliner.  I chose the recliner and am looking forward to the peace and quiet to take in the article.  However, the tip of the recliner footrest has also raised the basket up in the air!  What?  So, I have a moment wondering if I put the footrest back down, will it crush the basket?  I actually considered just leaving the chair in position and reading the article.  However, the landline rang.  It is always a scam call.  But what if it wasn’t this time?  So, I slowly let the footrest down and scampered to answer the call.  As predicted, unknown caller.  Grrrr . . .

I retraced my steps back to the recliner and plopped down.  As soon as I started reading the article, our little dog Carly made a little noise indicating the time was 11:02 a.m.  You see, she has breakfast around 6:15 so she is ready for her lunch at 11.  We’ve known for quite a while that she can tell time and that she can also count, so don’t even think about shortchanging her on the number of Cheerios she receives as a treat.

I tried to ignore her, but she looked at me with such emotion as if she might starve if forced to wait longer for lunch.  Of course, I got up once again to put her lunch in her bowl.

Yet again, I retraced my steps only to have a text from Tom who was out and about doing errands, asking if I needed anything from Kroger since he had made his way there.  Of course, there’s always something that I need from Kroger so I answered his text and thanked him for his thoughtfulness.

After the text exchange, I focused my attention on the magazine article.  However, now Carly needed to go out to do “good doggy”, so I hopped up once again to oblige since she is always so polite when getting my attention for this event.

When I returned to the sunroom, I saw the book that my friend had passed along to me and my curiosity peaked as to what the storyline of the book was.  I began reading the jacket cover to get a feel for the story when Carly gave a growl.  She is a sweet little dog, but she has it in for the UPS truck and driver, and of course, she alerted me to their presence in the neighborhood and of course I am always happy to get a delivery even if it did mean another interruption and delay getting to read.

Will I ever get to read the Samual L. Jackson article?  Or even have a chance at reading an entire book?  I’ll let you know.
