Oxford takes Hernando, heads to 7A playoffs

The Oxford Chargers put an exclamation to their conference championship with a 43-9 win over Hernando Thursday night to end the regular season.
The Chargers will host Germantown in the first round of the 7A playoffs next Friday, Nov. 15. Germantown (6-4 overall, 1-3 district) defeated Clinton 53-35 tonight.
The Chargers (6-4 overall, 5-0 district) put on an offensive show. Levi Blount had three touchdowns in the first half and broke the record for receptions in the season. He had receptions of 17, 26 and 50 yards from quarterback Drew Dean.
In addition to those touchdowns, Dean hit Kingston Gregory for a 33-yard touchdown for the first touchdown of the game. Dean also scored on a two-yard run in the third quarter for the 36-9 lead.
Tripp Smith came in as quarterback in the final quarter and found Cooper Scott wide-open for a 43-yard touchdown with 10:13 left to close out the scoring. Michael Thompson was five for five extra-point kicks.
Hernando’s Ray Rayborn scored on a 10-yard reception with 11;53 to go in the second quarter. The PAT was missed. Then Hernando kicked a 40-yard field goal to make the score 29-9.
