Oxford defeats Itawamba in pair of soccer matches

Oxford defeated Itawamba in a pair of soccer matches at home on Thursday night.
The girls team picked up their third clean sheet of the season with a 6-0 win. Madison Strum and Ella Reeder scored two goals apiece to pace the Chargers. Sonia Sandoval also scored and Jane Irwin added a goal from about 40 yards on a free kick. The Chargers are now 3-1-0 on the season.
In the boys game, Oxford remained unbeaten on the year with a 3-1 win. Colton Webb put the Chargers on the board before Itawamba’s Caleb Bates scored on a breakaway to knot the score at 1. Oxford’s Jerry Dudley put the Chargers back on top with a goal before halftime.
Ariel Rodriguez scored in the second half to close out the scoring. The Chargers are now 3-0-1 with wins over Olive Branch, Lafayette, and Itawamba with a tie against Clinton.
Next up for both teams are matches against Saltillo at home.
