Chargers take down Southaven 35-14

Oxford continues to rack up wins as the Chargers took down Southaven tonight 35-14 in a homecoming matchup. The Chargers are 3-0 in 7A and 4-4 overall.

Akiyah Vaughn was crowned homecoming Queen and Jackson Siskey was crowned King. Also honored and receiving their state championship rings was the 2024 girls’ powerlifting team.

Michael Thompson continues to dominate with his kicking skills as he put through two field goals tonight, 38 and 33 yards, respectively.

Kamar Houston took advantage of some special teams mistakes by scoring two touchdowns. He scored on a two-yard run with 7:53 left in the first quarter. Oxford scored a two-point conversion attempt to take an 8-0 lead.

Houston’s second touchdown came after a blocked punt and a 12-yard run with 8:20 to go in the third for the 25-14 lead.

Oxford went ahead 15-7 on a Terrell McGlown 16-yard pass from Drew Dean with 2:56 to go in the first quarter.

Southaven pulled within one point, 15-14, after taking advantage of two Oxford penalties on the drive with 10:00 left in the second quarter.

Thompson’s 38-yard field goal put Oxford up 18-14.

Dean hit Levi Blount for a 21-yard touchdown reception with 11:47 to go in the game for the 32-14 lead. Thompson finished off the scoring with 7:53 remaining in the game.

Oxford will host Lewisburg (1-7 overall, 1-2 district) on Friday, Nov. 1 the final regular season game of the season. Lewisburg lost to Horn Lake tonight 39-21.
