‘Dores come up short against Warriors

The Lafayette Commodore lost to the Pontotoc Warriors 35-21 on Friday night at home.
Lafayette moves to 0-7, and 0-2 in the region on the season.
Pontotoc scored on its opening drive on a 52-yard run to take a 7-0 lead over the Commodores in the first quarter.
Lafayette tied the game as Darius Brown returned a punt 75-yards to knot the game at 7-7.
In the second quarter, Lafayette’s quarterback Nick Thompson threw an interception that Pontotoc returned for a TD to go up 14-7 over Lafayette.
On the next possession for the Commodores Thompson hit Charvon Bell on a 64-yard pass for a touchdown that tied the game at 14-14.
The Warriors answered by driving down the field and scored a touchdown from a yard out to go up 21-14 over Lafayette.
Pontotoc took a 21-14 lead over the Commodores into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, Pontotoc extended its lead with a touchdown to go up 28-14.
On the Warriors next possession they scored a touchdown on two plays to go up 35-14 over Lafayette.
Lafayette scored a late touchdown in the fourth as Brown found the end zone from three yards out and the Commodores cut the lead to 35-21.
The Commodores return home next Friday as they play host to West Point. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
