The Oxford Chargers (3-4 overall, 2-0 district) pulled off a conference win over Desoto Central Jaguars with 21.3 seconds left in the game on a one-yard run by senior Kamar Houston.
The Jaguars retook the lead 13-7 with 21.7 seconds left in the first half. It was a defensive battle throughout the second half as neither team could put it in the endzone. Both teams forced turnovers on downs as during fourth and shorts.
The Jaguars try to score on the final play of the game with a second left but Oxford intercepts the ball to end the game.
Desoto Central scored first in the first quarter and take the 7-0 lead.
The Chargers tied the game at seven with 4:19 left on a one yard touchdown by Jamrion Pegues. Michael Thompson’s PAT was good.
Thompson attempted a 48-yard field goal with 14 left in the first half but it fell short. Thompsons completed four field goals last week in the win over Horn Lake, 42, 35, 31 and 34 yards. This was the first time in his career to kick that many field goals in a game.
Also of note was an interception by Ja’ylen Judson in the second quarter.
The Charger defense came out swinging in the third quarter. Teborse Coleman and Demaire Frierson had back-to-back tackles for loss yards to stop the first offensive drive.
The Chargers will be celebrating homecoming next week. They will host Southaven (2-6, 1-1). Southaven defeated Lewisburg 38-14 tonight.
