All of Oxford’s points came in the second quarter when Oxford recovered a fumble on the Tupelo 25 at the 4:45 mark. Quarterback Drew Dean hit wide receiver Levi Blount on a 19-yard touchdown pass. Michael Thompson kicked the point after to cut the lead 13-7.

Thompson added a 33-yard field goal as time expired in the half. The field goal was first a 23-yard try which he made but a holding penalty pushed the ball back.

In the second half, the Chargers could not put together a sustained drive to make a difference against their rival’s defense.

Logging some defensive tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, pass breakups and quarterback hurries were Ja’lyen Judson, Jarvis Dunn, Demaire Frierson, Bryant Mix, Brown Dennis, Fisher Giles, Traviyon Dudley, Xaiden Smith, Detario Scott and Nathan Stewart.

The Chargers (1-3) will open conference play at home next Friday hosting Starkville (3-1) who lost to Louisville 42-41 tonight.
