Escaped inmate caught in Lafayette County

An escaped inmate from Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility was caught in Lafayette County Wednesday evening.
According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, after a routine count at the correctional facility, staff were alerted to an inmate being unaccounted for.
The facility went into lockdown and it was soon discovered that a kitchen employee was also missing.
The kitchen employee left the property with the inmate in her car.
The vehicle was spotted in Lafayette County with both subjects inside.
Police pursued but were unsuccessful in getting the driver to stop. The pursuit ended when the vehicle wrecked on Highway 6.
Authorities attempted to stop the vehicle to no avail. Eventually, the car crashed and both occupants were taken into custody.
Ryan Burks, age 39, who is serving a 30-year sentence for two counts of sexual battery and one count of burglary was taken into custody and booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center.
The employee, Leslie Nichole McNeal, 44, of Grenada, was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released and the booked into the detention center.
