The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office recently teamed up with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to arrest two Georgia men who were allegedly attempting to scam a local citizen.

According to reports, on Thursday, the sheriff’s office took a report about a possible fraud incident. The victim said someone with Amazon called them and asked if they had purchased a $4,000 computer. The victim told the caller he did not. The caller said the victim’s assets were frozen and the Social Security Administration would be notifying them.

The victim was later contacted by who he believed to be the Social Security Administration. The scammer sent a photo with an I.D. Badge and told the victim they needed to withdraw all their money from the bank and only leave $1,500 in their account. The victim followed the directions of the scammers.

The scammers advised the victim that they would pick up the money at the victim’s residence for safekeeping. The victim was advised by the scammers that their money would be held by the U.S. Department of Treasury and after they got a new social security number the funds would be released back to them.

The victim went to the bank, took all money out, and contacted the scammers who stated they would come to his residence and pick up the money the next day.

The victim stated they felt something was wrong and wanted to report it.

The Sheriff’s Office then set up an operation to arrest the scammers.

Two people were later arrested when they arrived at the victim’s home by investigators.

Two individuals were taken into custody later identified as Nasruddin Bhai Nooruddin, 52, and Chaturali Alauidin Roy, 69, both of Atlanta  Georgia. They were arrested without incident.

The Sheriff’s Office is holding both individuals pending a bail hearing.
