The Oxford-Lafayette Newcomers and Friends organization will present a free educational program, “Katahdin, Hiking the Appalachian Trail with Reckless Abandon.”
The program will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 28 at the North East Mississippi Electric Power Association/NE SPARC auditorium.
There is plenty of convenient free parking.
In 2021, at age 65, full-time professional photographer Kevin Newsome put down his camera, bought some hiking gear, kissed his wife goodbye, and embarked on a six-month-long, 2,200-mile journey from Georgia to Maine, traversing the entire Appalachian Trail.
In this fast-paced presentation, Newsome will condense those 171 days into an hour of entertainment and share how life on the trail helped him develop the necessary skill sets and mindset to succeed in the face of adversity – on and off the trail.
Signed copies of his book, “Katahdin, Hiking the Appalachian Trail with Reckless Abandon” will be available for purchase after the presentation.
