A Jacksonville, Florida man who was arrested in Oxford over a year ago after a shooting has been arrested in Florida in connection with the murder of Charles Jones aka “Julio Foolio.”
Sean A. Gathright, 18, was 17 years old when he was arrested in Oxford on May 25, 2023, after three people were wounded at a shooting at the Holly Hills apartments in Oxford. He was originally charged as an adult with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; however, according to his attorney, Rhea Tannehill, he was not indicted on the charge.
“He was defending himself,” Tannehill told the Eagle Wednesday evening.
Jones was shot and killed on June 23 at Home 2 Suites in Tampa.
According to the Tampa Police Department, Gathright was one of three arrested on Monday in connection with Jones’ death.
Also arrested were Isaiah Chance, 21, Alicia Andrews, 21, Davion Murphy, 27, and Rashad Murphy, 30. A warrant has been issued for a fifth suspect, 27-year-old Davion Murphy, who has not yet been arrested.
Investigators have named Gathright, Rashad and Davion Murphy as the shooters.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the five suspects conspired to kill Jones and drove from Jacksonville to Tampa on June 22.
The motive for the shooting is tied to an ongoing feud spanning years between Charles Jones’ 6 Block gang and two rival gangs, ATK and 1200 allied together. The feud between the gangs has spanned over a decade with dozens of murders by and against both sides.
