Charles White, who graduated in May from OHS, was appointed by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker. White was one of 16 students appointed across the various service academies and the only one from Oxford.

White reported to Kings Point, New York on July 5 where he will spend the next four years and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation. Additionally, White will spend approximately 300 days at sea gathering crucial global experience.

White was born on Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi before moving to Oxford at the age of 2 which ultimately resulted in White’s desire to serve his country.

He received nominations to three federal service academies: the Navy, Air Force, and Merchant Marine from other senators and even the U.S. President’s Office.

Upon graduating from the Merchant Marine Academy in 2028, he will have the option to commission into any service branch or work in the maritime industry while serving as a Naval Reserve Officer.

During his time at OHS, White participated in the Marine Corp JROTC, where he would earn company commander status his senior year, as well as the National Honors Society and played football.

“We are very proud of him and we’re very excited about his future service opportunities,” his father Jamie White said.
