The Lafayette County Fire Department responded to a house fire Wednesday afternoon.
At about 2:13 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to County Road 317 for a report of a structure fire.
The residents at the house had evacuated from the structure before crews arrived.
Engine 15 was the first to arrive on the scene and reported visible smoke emanating from a bedroom window on the front side of the duplex.
Firefighters entered through the front door. As additional fire crews arrived on the scene, crews were directed to ventilate the structure by cutting holes in the roof above the fire.
After the fire was extinguished and contained in the bedroom, fire crews assisted the residents in retrieving essential items from the structure.
Baptist EMS was on the scene for firefighter safety and rehab due to the high heat at the time of the fire.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control.
LCFD FD1, FD2, DC1, DC2, Engine 9, Engine 10, Engine 15, and 20 firefighters responded to the call.
So far in 2024, LCFD has responded to 1,586 calls for service, an increase of 358 calls compared to the same period last year.
