The Oxford and Lafayette County school districts are each mourning the loss of one of their own.
On Monday, the Oxford School District announced that Scarleth Daniela Garcia-Mendoza, 7, died in a vehicle crash in Pontotoc on Friday.
Scarleth attended Bramlett Elementary School.
“If you knew Scarleth, you knew her beautiful smile and joyful laughter. We ask that everyone in our community remember their family in the coming weeks,” stated the district on its social media sites.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Friday on Highway 6 in Pontotoc County. The SUV she was a passenger in ran off the road and rolled over. Three others were injured.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at Iglesia Jerusalen Maranatha Church in Pontotoc.
She will be laid to rest at Divino Paraiso Cemetery in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The Lafayette County School District lost a beloved staff member on Friday.
Hailey Boggs, 49, served as the records clerk at the Lafayette Upper Elementary School.
“She always went above and beyond to ensure our students were happy and safe, often caring for their personal needs as well as their school ones. Her warmth and compassion will be sorely missed,” the district posted on social media Monday.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. A service celebrating her life will take place at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Coleman Funeral Home.
