Oxford High’s head tennis coach, Louis Nash was named the National High School Athletic Coaches Association’s National Tennis Coach of the Year this week.
Nash was named as a finalist earlier this year.
The award was given on June 27 during the NHSACA National Coaches Convention in Bismark, North Dakota.
Nash has been coaching at OHS for almost 25 years; however, he has been coaching high school tennis since 1982 when he became the tennis coach at RH Watkins High School in Laurel. He remained there until 1984. In 1986, he took the job of head coach at Greenville’s St. Joseph High School until 1993.
In 2001, he accepted the job as head coach at OHS.
His varsity record is 560 wins and 63 losses over his career and has won 17 state team championships.
He’s no stranger to awards either.
He is a two-time winner of the MAC Coach of the Year. In 2019, he was named the U.S. Professional Tennis Association Coach of the Year for Mississippi and in January 2023, he was inducted into the Mississippi Tennis Hall of Fame in Jackson.
