The Alley is named for Mr. Herbert Wiley and his father-in-law Mr. Rob Boles, both owners of the much-remembered shoe shop that anchored that corner on Jackson for decades.
Behind the shoe shop was B&B Cafe and it too lasted for decades.
In those days when many black citizens walked to the Square from Freetown, Boles Wiley Alley was the closest way in and a meeting spot for business and socializing. A time long gone.
