Fourth suspected arrested in shooting death of MJ Daniels

A fourth suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of University of Southern Mississippi football player Marcus “MJ” Daniels Jr., who played for the Ole Miss Rebels in 2021-22.
On Wednesday, Hattiesburg Police arrested Nytavion Shaw, 16, of Laurel, and charged him as an adult with one count of capital murder and one count of attempted armed carjacking.
He has been booked into the Forrest County Jail, according to the Hattiesburg Police Department.
Daniels, 21, was shot and killed on June 11 in Hattiesburg at an off-campus apartment complex. He was found unresponsive in his vehicle.
On June 14, the Hattiesburg Police Department arrested three people:
— Orlando May, 18, of Hattiesburg, was charged with one count of Capital Murder; one count of attempted armed carjacking; one count of felony eluding; and two counts of grand larceny auto.
— Allen Marcus Gardner, 17, of Houston, Texas, has been arrested and charged as an adult with one count of capital murder and one count of attempted armed carjacking.
— Samir Green, 16, of Hattiesburg, has been arrested and charged as an adult with one count of capital murder and one count of attempted armed carjacking.
Daniels attended George County High School before coming to Ole Miss to play football from 2021-2022. He transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi in 2023. He would have been a senior this coming school year.
