Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to County Road 129 on June 16 regarding an assault. The caller said a woman showed up at their door and was bleeding.

Deputies spoke to the victim who said she had been assaulted and raped. She was taken to the hospital.

The victim identified James Allen Colton, 58, of Abbeville as the suspect.

Colton was arrested and taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was charged with rape. He was booked on a $100,000 bond; however, a hold was placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
