Chargers defeat Germantown to take the series

Oxford beat the Germantown Mavericks 8–3 Tuesday to take the series and advance in the 7A high school baseball playoffs. The Chargers will now face Madison Central in a best-of-three series that will begin Thursday or Friday, depending on weather.
Germantown jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the top of the first inning.
Oxford (21-10) quickly answered with three runs of their own in the home half of the frame. Brady Stinnett singled and James Blackwood doubled in the inning, helped by a ground out from Carson Schmeizer that tied the game.
Oxford extended their advantage in the second with a three run home run by Stinnett to left field to put
the Chargers up 6-2.
Stinnett went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs.
Chargers starter Josh Scruggs worked 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with five walks and two strikeouts.
In the fourth, Oxford scored two more runs on a single to left field by Schmelzer as the bases were loaded to go up 8-2.
Schmelzer finished the game going 1-for-4 with three RBIs.
Germantown loaded the bases in the top of the seventh and scored a run when the Chargers turned a a double play.
Hayes Huggins went to the mound in the fourth, and pitched 4.0 innings. He surrendered just one run on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.
