Lafayette High senior wins second straight tennis title

Lafayette High’s Alexandra Lampton has won her second straight title in girls singles at the MHSAA Class 5A Tennis Championships held in Oxford.

The Lafayette senior, who won a team championship on Monday, defeated Alexis Price of Corinth 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday to claim the title. Lampton defeated Greenville’s Aaliyah Guthrie 6-0,6-0 and East Central’s Maelee Henkel 6-0, 6-1 on Tuesday en route to the title.

Lafayette High also had two doubles teams finish second.

In girls doubles, Brookhaven’s Allie McNeill and Annie Stewart defeated Lafayette’s Jenna Lampton and Bentley Spicer in three sets 6-1,2-6 (10-5).

In mixed doubles, Brookhaven’s Caroline Kilpatrick and Cohen Leggett won over Lafayette’s Finn Rico and Presley Thomas 6-4,6-4.
