A Flood Watch remains in effect for heavy rainfall over the next several days. Lafayette County can expect 4-6 inches of rain through Thursday.

The flood watch was issued at 7 a.m. today and runs through 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Flash flooding of urban areas or low-lying or poor drainage areas is possible.

Rain is expected to continue throughout the day and into the evening hours. Intermittent thunderstorms are possible with some producing heavy rain and gusty winds.

The chance for more severe storms increases on Wednesday in Lafayette County. The National Weather Service has listed Lafayette County as a 2 on its 1-5 severe storm scale, which is a “slight” chance for severe storms Wednesday.

However severe, the storms are expected to produce heavy rainfall on the area’s already saturated ground.

Along with heavy rains, the storms could produce some hail and damaging winds.

Rain could continue into early Thursday morning and then leave the area letting the sun make its return. However, a cold front will blow in, causing some 30 mph winds on Thursday with the high reaching 66 degrees and dropping to 46 degrees at night.

Friday through Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny with the temperatures getting back up in the 70s with the lows in the mid- to upper 50s.
