Oxford defeats Lewisburg 5-4 on Saturday

The Oxford Chargers baseball team defeated the Lewisburg Patriots 5-4 on the road on Saturday.
Oxford (14-6) took the lead in the seventh off the bat of Reid Kent who doubled and brought in the go ahead run to break the 4-4 tie.
The Chargers got on the scoreboard first in the second on a double by James Blackwood in the top of the second.
Oxford sent Josh Scruggs to the mound to open the game. Scruggs kept Lewisburg off the scoreboard through three innings of work.
In the fourth, Lewisburg took the lead with two runs coming in on a home run and a base knock.
Scruggs worked 3.1 innings while surrendering two runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
The Chargers answered with two runs of their own with a run scored on a double by Brady Stinnett and a pass ball scored Oxford’s second run of the frame, making it 3-2 Oxford.
Oxford turned to Hayes Huggins on the mound for 2.0 innings, allowing two runs while walking three and striking out two batters.
Lewisburg scored its final two runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 advantage.
The Chargers brought Robert Upchurch in for the final 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball to pick up the win. Upchurch allowed a walk and struck out two.
Oxford returns to action on Tuesday when they play host to Hernando at home. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
