The Oxford Pantry has a new piece of artwork that not only adds color to the outside of its building but helps to share the message of what the countless number of volunteers do each week for the community.
Created by Melanie and Rob Kraft, the “quilt-like” painting of a wheat head on a metal diamond-shaped frame was hung on the outside of the Pantry building off Molly Barr Road on Tuesday.
The Oxford Pantry’s official logo also includes wheat.
“It’s a play-off of the official logo,” Melanie Kraft said.
Wheat often represents abundance, sustenance, fertility and the cycle of life. Wheat symbolizes the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world, highlighting the importance of cooperation and community.
“We really feel this goes well with our mission,” said Pantry board member Mary Sweeney.
Melanie Kraft said she and her husband wanted to create and donate the artwork to show their support of the Pantry.
“We believe in what they do,” she said. “And this Pantry is extremely well run.”
