Oxford Chargers baseball splits double-header in Biloxi

Oxford split a double-header on Thursday in Biloxi as they faced Sumrall and Arlington.
The Oxford Chargers outhit Sumrall six to five on Thursday morning but fell to Sumrall 6-4.
Sumrall took a 3-0 advantage in the second inning over the Chargers. Oxford (8-6) got on the scoreboard with a run in the third and fourth innings respectively.
Sumrall scored a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Oxford’s starting pitcher Brady Stinnett picked up the loss against Sumrall. Stinnett went 5 innings and surrendered six runs on five hits with three walks and retired seven by strikeout.
Oxford scored their final two runs in the sixth inning.
The Chargers had runs driven in by Sharpe Smith and Jack Gaia. Smith finished the game going 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs.
On the base path, Oxford was led by Sam Roy with two stolen bases.
Later in the day, the Chargers came back and defeated Arlington in Biloxi, 7-6.
The Chargers got the winning hit off the bat of Jack Gaia in the seventh in walk-off fashion.
Oxford opened the game with a 2-0 advantage on Arlington as Thomas Rayburn ground out and Brady Stinnett fielder’s choice.
Oxford’s starting pitcher, Josh Scruggs, went 2.2 innings on the hill and gave up six runs on three hits with six walks and a strikeout. Robert Upchurch came into the game and held Arlington at bay in his 3.2 of work. Hayes Huggins picked up the win in his outing for over an inning by not allowing a hit or a run.
In the bottom of the sixth, Oxford tied the game with two runs.
Oxford takes the field again on Tuesday as they face Collierville. The first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
