Oxford Chargers baseball falls to Grenada

The Oxford Chargers baseball team fell to Grenada 9-5 on the road on Monday.
Grenada jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage over Oxford after the second inning, with four runs coming in the frame.
Oxford (7-5) started climbing back in and closing the gap in the third inning on a single by Carson Schmelzer to left that brought home Thomas Rayburn and Brady Stinnett.
Oxford’s had Whit Roady on the mound to face Grenada to open the game. Roady worked an inning and surrendered five runs (one earned) on three hits with one strikeout.
Oxford then gave the ball to Hays Huggins who kept Grenada off the scoreboard until the sixth. Huggins worked 4.1 innings and surrendered three runs on six hits with a walk. Huggins was relieved by Jack Hill who allowed a run and gave up two walks.
Oxford had Garrett Kosko come to the mound and record the final two outs in the sixth.
In the fourth, Oxford had a two-run home run by Rayburn to cut Grenada’s advantage to 5-4.
Stinnett delivered a home run in the sixth that tied the game at 5-5.
Grenada retook the lead in the home half of the sixth with four runs to go up 9-5.
Oxford returns to action on Wednesday as they face St. Joseph Catholic. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
