On February 10, 2024, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest on a suspect who had fled from law enforcement.
On Dec. 15, 2023, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisting the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office on locating an individual who was suspected to be in the area of Highway 6 East, near Denmark.
An investigator with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office made contact with the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The individual then led law enforcement on a brief pursuit and subsequently got away.
Investigators recovered a stolen vehicle in the process of the investigation and warrants were issued for John Ross Burgess, 33, of Pontotoc for felony fleeing and possession of stolen property. Burgess was taken into custody without incident.
Burgess was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was charged with felony fleeing and possession of stolen property. Bond was set at $25,000 bond by a Justice Court judge Feb. 12.
Burgess is also wanted in Pontotoc and Lee counties. He will be transported there once he is released on bond from Lafayette County.
