As I write this, it’s 23 degrees outside and all my faucets are trickling water. It was only a few weeks ago that I was in Sayulita, Mexico—my first time in the small village along the Pacific coast, backed by the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains. Known for its strong surf and stunning sunsets, I found the town to be safe, friendly, and wonderfully colorful.
It had been 40 years since I was south of the border. My prior time there was when I was a teenager—with my parents.
Now that they have both passed, I thought of them often on this trip with my friends, feeling grateful that they instilled in me both a love of travel and a respect for other cultures. I hope these images help you to visualize warmer days ahead.
