Lafayette Schools closed Tuesday; Oxford waiting to make decision

UPDATE: OSD has decided to close schools on Tuesday.
The Lafayette County School District is keeping its schools closed Tuesday due to the remaining ice on many county roads that could make travel unsafe.
However, the Oxford School District is still waiting to see if enough of the ice will melt later this afternoon and evening with expected rain in the forecast.
In a message to the parents and staff Monday, OSD superintendent Bradley Roberson said that while road conditions are starting to improve in the city, side streets and neighborhood roads are still not in “good traveling condition.”
Roberson said he hopes the rain tonight, along with above-freezing temperatures, will continue to help clear the roads so that school could open Tuesday.
“The bottom line is our kids need to be in school and I want to give us every opportunity for them to return,” he said.
Roberson said he does not plan on making a final decision about closing until early Tuesday morning. If the district decides on a delayed opening, the district will let everyone know tonight by 6 p.m.
The Oxford Eagle will post any updates as soon as they are made available.
