The director of University of Mississippi Fraternity and Sorority Life took to social media on Wednesday, July 1 to address concerns for Fall 2020 COVID-19 planning and preparation.

Dr. Arthur E. Doctor took to Facebook on Wednesday to commend students for their perseverance and determination to finish the spring semester, and to remind them of the impact they have on the University’s campus.

“As you now know, the Chancellor has announced that the University will meet in person this fall for classes,” Doctor said. “Our office and the entire campus community has been preparing to welcome you back to UM this fall. We often talk about the 41 percent of undergraduates who are members of fraternities and sororities. So, the impact we have on campus is tremendous.”

Doctor acknowledged that students are eager to return to campus, as it has been tough to not see friends, go to places that some students would go in the past and to enjoy the summer like they normally would.

“I’m asking that we, as fraternity and sorority members here at the University of Mississippi, utilize the large platform that we have to positively impact the larger community,” Doctor said. “What does that look like in practice? Wearing your mask when out in public, practice physical distancing, and complying with CDC as well as state and local guidelines.”

Doctor’s video reminded students to remain committed to do their part to slow down the spread of COVID-19 in Oxford and Lafayette County. 

“So it can be said that the FSL community are leaders and beacons of light during the tough times in this global pandemic,” Doctor said. “Remember your FSL staff has got your back, wash your hands, wear your mask and we’ll see you back in Oxford in August.”
