Following two straight days of reporting more than 200 presumptive COVID-19 cases in Mississippi, the weekend saw a fluctuation of daily totals under 200.

Since Friday, nearly 500 cases were reported by the Mississippi State Department of Health, with 470 new cases reported as of 6 p.m. Sunday. MSDH reported 173 new cases on Friday, 139 cases on Saturday and 161 cases on Sunday. Mississippi’s total number of cases is 2,942 since March 11.

Friday saw a new single-day high in reported deaths with 11. There were three deaths reported on Saturday and two deaths reported on Sunday. The state’s total is now 98 deaths.

Lafayette County continues to show a slow spread rate, reporting only four new cases since Friday and zero deaths. Three new cases were reported in the LOU Community on Friday and one new case was reported on Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 30 cases and 1 death.

Panola County has reported 23 cases and two deaths. Nearby Yalobusha County has 14 cases, and Pontotoc County has 15 cases and one death.

As of Sunday night, 29 percent of Mississippi’s cases were hospitalized with 70 percent not hospitalized; one percent, roughly 29 cases, were unknown.

Five new outbreaks were identified in long-term care (LTC) facilities on Sunday. Currently, there are 58 reported LTC outbreaks in 36 counties.
