The Mississippi High School Activities Association reconvened on Friday to further discuss plans for the spring sports calendar after Governor Tate Reeves announced public schools would remain closed through April 17 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a source, MHSAA has decided to cancel spring football for this year along with archery, concert band evaluations and choral music competitions.
Other spring sports, such as baseball and softball, are now suspended through April 17 and will reconvene to discuss resuming the seasons if schools reopen.
There was also discussion of extending football practice a week from July 27 to Aug. 3, but no decision was made. All physicals are valid now through July 27, and no mass physical examinations will be given until further notice.
This is a developing story.
